The Canadian Excursion
Over a weekend in July, Sophia took Kayden and me to her home back in
Rocanville, Saskatchewan.
We left on a Friday, and some road construction and a mishap with Google maps turned a four-hour trip into an eight-hour excursion. Oh well! Frustrating at the time, but now we look back on it fondly.
We arrived around 10 that night, exiting the car and being bombarded with the multitudes of animals that reside at the Fafard’s farm. I was greeted by a massive white farm dog named Birch, with the other animals coming up one by one.
It was over 100 degrees during our time there so safe to say we mostly stayed in a cool basement. On Saturday, Sophia gave us a tour of her farm. She took us to Rocanville where we were able to see the iconic high school that we hear so much about. We also went to a town called Moosomin, stopped at an ice cream store and then went to Tim Hortons, a Canadian staple so I’m told. By this time, it was far too hot to remain outside so like most sane people do, we binged watched “Off-Campus” for most of the day a mistake that we will take to our graves.
After bleaching our eyes and praying, we had burgers and played a few games with the Fafard siblings. We ended the night with a mosquito riddled campfire, smores, and a few episodes of “Derry Girls,” a show that is actually worth watching.
The real highlight of the trip was meeting Mystician alum, Arlo. Arlo is Sophia’s snaggle-toothed black and white cat and a Mystician office icon if you will. Kayden despised her while I thought she was adorable.
The trip back was faster as Google maps did not betray us. The trip was a fun, surprisingly eventful time. Something I’m sure we’ll laugh about in the future.
