"Into the Woods" Moves into the Wings of BSC Theatre

With the showing of “Daddy Long Legs” finishing in September, “Into the Woods” moved into the wings of Bismarck State College theatre. Even though “Into the Woods” isn’t opening until early November, theatre productions must start early. And where does any good musical start? With set.
BSC Associate Professor of Technical Theatre Dean Bellin is behind the choreography of the lights, sound, and set for “Into the Woods.” Bellin stated that they began working and that the set is planned to be big. Bellin gave some background on some one of the trickier characters to portray like the giants and Milky White, a milk cow.
“We’re working on being really creative with the giant,” Bellin said.
There are between 400 and 500 individual cues planned for the show. Cues are called by a stage manager for either a light to change, music to start, or set to move.
Bellin shared his favorite part of lighting and building sets. He enjoys being able to see how the actors interact and what lighting has to offer. When it comes to building sets, Bellin expressed how much he loves to bring dreams to life.
“There’s never a bad day in the shop,” Bellin said.
“Into the Woods” will be showing Nov. 6 – 8 and 13 – 15.
