Movie Wars

Movies can be an exciting thing, especially upcoming movies. It can be hard to determine whether or not a movie will be good based on its trailer. Jaxon and I try our best to draft the best upcoming movies. A movie draft is when we go back and forth, choosing the “best” movie of our chosen genre. We go for five rounds, and then we discuss who we think had the better movies. For this segment, we will be drafting upcoming movies.

I went first with taking one of the most anticipated superhero movies of this year, “Superman.” It will be released July 11. I think it will be a great movie as it’s directed by James Gunn. In the trailer we already see so much color and hope, literally everything that embodies the character of Superman.

I then drafted “Black Phone 2.” The first “Black Phone” movie, in my opinion, was such a unique movie, making you feel anticipatory and wary. The director claims this movie will be a coming of age type of scary story, which seems like an interesting concept for a movie. This movie will be released on October 17.

The next movie I drafted was “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” releasing June 10. I picked this movie sincethe whole franchise is somewhat promising. Despite some of the plots in a few of the “Jurassic World” movies not being good, overall all the movies are entertaining. The cast of the movie also seems very stacked, having Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey.

I also chose “The Conjuring: Last Rites” for a similar reason I chose “Jurassic World.” The whole Conjuring franchise is solid, so I have some faith in this movie. This movie releases September 5.

My final pick was for a movie coming out a few years down the line; “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” This movie is set to release sometime in 2026. I’m confident this movie will be good as it’s the same group of directors that directed the last two movies so the vision will stay the same throughout this movie as well.

Jaxon picked “28 Years Later” as his first pick because “28 Days Later” is the best zombie movie, in his opinion. This movie continues the franchise in a promising trailer. It takes place after the two first movies and is 28 years after the Rage Virus was released into the world. The movie is releasing this summer, on June 20.

“A Minecraft Movie” was his second pick and he regrets picking it. The movie looked a little promising at first, but after more trailers were released, he regretted picking it. It was released on April 4.

“Final Destination: Bloodlines” was his third pick. Bloodlines is being released on May 16. It puts an interesting twist on the Final Destination formula by having the victims be family who were born as a cause of one of the main characters avoiding death.

“Fantastic Four” happens to be Jaxon’s number four pick. The movie looks very promising with the humor, visuals, and actors associated with the movie. The cast does seem promising, with Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. This movie will also release in the summertime, on July 25.

Jaxon’s last pick is “Mortal Kombat 2.” He thought the first movie had a very good premise and is excited to see how they continue to adapt different storylines and characters into a feature length film. This movie will be released on October 24.

Who do you think had the better movie picks for upcoming movies?
