Q: How do you help with students?
A: I help them find out if they need books and where they’re located and what is the best cost alternative for them as well.
Q: What is your favorite part about helping students?
A: Helping students, honestly. I want to make sure that if a student comes in that I kind of understand if they need the book, what their financial availability is, because although I want you to get a book from here, I don’t need you to get a book from here. I need you to get a book that suits you and your finances.
Q: Tell us something fun about yourself.
A: I’m an empty nester now, and so I’m trying to find out what is still fun about me. Does that make sense? Like, after your kids leave, you have to figure out what’s fun I talk randomly, and I’ll interrupt people, otherwise, I’ll forget. I love when people like to laugh, so any sort of, dumb jokes or something like that makes me happy.
Q: And why should students get to know you?
A: Because down here is fun. I mean, I know you’re just getting books, but down here is where I want students to feel comfortable, and we can goof around and they can look at all the silliness that’s on my desk and have accumulated over the last 22 years from anybody and everybody. And, yeah, upstairs is where they talk serious money, but down here is where we have fun.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: Just that I love BSC. I know that sounds corny, but I’ve been here a long time, and I enjoy the students. I love our work studies and our part timers because you get to kind of know them for a little bit. And they tend to come back even after they leave here, which I feel is a good sign for the bookstore. And it’s a safe space down here. Like people come down here to vent and just chill or get away from stuff. And I’m never here to just sell you a book, but to make sure it’s the right fit for a student.
