Don't Get Me Started

Everyone has those little things that drive them crazy, that push all the wrong buttons, that somehow spark an unreasonably intense anger. Those are called pet peeves. We’ve already covered my own pet peeves and Bismarck State College students’ pet peeves, so the only thing left is the Mystic Media Staff’s pet peeves. I went around the office and asked each staff member their pet peeves. Here’s what they had to say.
“People not holding the door for those behind them” Editor-in-Chief Kayden Schmitcke said. She finds it very inconsiderate for people to not hold the door for those behind them as it only takes a few seconds, and it is a nice thing to do. I completely agree with this opinion. I think you could never be in such a rush that you can’t take five seconds out of your day to hold the door for someone behind you. It’s such an easy way to be a nice person.
“People who give advice when it is not requested.” Content Editor Sophia Fafard said. This is one of her pet peeves as she sometimes wants to do things on her own and figure things out for herself. She doesn’t appreciate when people put in their two-cents and assume she needs help.
I agree with this one as well. I find it annoying when people go out of their way to give you advice, especially if they see you’re doing alright. If you are enuinely struggling with something badly and they see where you need help that’s fine, but people who just come up to you and start spewing advice seem so condescending.
“Bad Parking,” said Graphic Designer Braxton Nicholes. This is Braxtons biggest pet peeve as he claims it’s annoying. This is very self explanatory. From the start of the year people have been complaining about bad parkers, and six months later I still find it extremely annoying.
“Chewing with your mouth open,” said Mystician Writer Jaxon Miller. He finds it repulsive and the chewing noises disgust him. He claims that anyone who does this “cannot be my friend.” This is valid. Luckily I have not run into anyone who has done this, but if I do, I’m with Jaxon. I cannot be friends with them.
“People asking me questions when I’m eating,” said the MYX Coordinator Tinashe Makuve. He finds it annoying as they know it will take him a second to respond since he has food in his mouth. He would rather wait until he’s done eating to have a conversation. I agree with this. I think it’s fine to take breaks while eating to talk but to consistently ask questions and try to talk to someone who is actively eating is slightly annoying.
“Reviewing something without consuming it,” said Tinashe Makuve. This was another one of his pet peeves.
He finds this annoying as people who do this are factually incorrect. He claims that people taking other opinions on something they haven’t experienced is dangerous as soon everyone will be filled with incorrect facts. He claims that criticizing something without consuming it leads to a negative stigmatism on valid criticism.
I agree with this pet peeve the most as it annoys me so much. When people criticize something without interacting with it, it puts a bad rep on good things. So many people call things dumb, boring, stupid, and more, even when they haven’t even seen it yet.
This is all we have for pet peeves staff edition!
