News from the newsroom — March 8
Over the years, the College Media Association Spring National College Media Convention in New York City has been a tradition for The Mystician editors to attend. It is a place where they learn about media in the heart of the city where news is a constant. They return home with enthusiasm for the possibilities where their futures may take them and ready to share what they have learned with the rest of the campus.
This morning, The Mystician office is a bit quiet with three of the editors (Hunter Andes, Mandi Joyce and Marcie Reinbold) and one adviser (Cole Bernhardt) attending the CMA convention this year. I took Editor-in-chief Hunter Andes to the airport at 4 a.m. yesterday and heard that after a slight delay and detour through Detroit, they finally made it to their hotel around 10 p.m. last night.
This morning Hunter called me from the Big Apple before 9 a.m. excited to inform me that he had attended his first workshop and has a story assignment due by tomorrow afternoon. He said the rest of the day included more workshops and a visit to CNN for a quick tour with Lindsey Ellefson (Joe's daughter), who is currently working there.
Before leaving for the big city, the staff was hard at work making sure the March issue was in students' hands before everyone left for spring break. With shamrocks and green screen, the issue is filled with stories about the Mystics' basketball teams, part two of the future of college, the spring musical and why students skip classes. Pick up a copy and enjoy.
The Mystician staff have a variety of plans for the break, many of them working, some of them relaxing and others traveling. Our own Hunter will be going to Washington, D.C. to partake in the North Dakota Newspaper Association fellowship program. Read the story about him on the home page. But, whether they are going here or there, they will all be working on stories for the next issue. Watch for it in April.
